Season of Giving

Providing support to families

We started this business to provide support for families and, to us, that includes families we may never meet.

Flocks of ducks and chicks, a dream basket and irrigation pumps. What do these things have to do with nanny placement?

As we enter the season of giving, it's not lost on me how fortunate our family is and how much we have to be thankful for. I'm also reminded that we started this business to provide support for families, and that extends beyond caregiving and to families I'll never meet.

With Kate's help, we picked out several gifts from Heifer International and we plan to make this an annual tradition.

Here’s more info on what each gift provides:

Flock of ducks: Ducks provide eggs and protein for nourishment and boost income through sales of extra eggs and offspring

Flock of chicks: Chickens require little space and can thrive on readily available scraps; this allows families to make money from the birds without spending much. And since a good hen can lay up to 200 eggs a year, your flock of chickens gift provides a steady source of nutrition and income.

Irrigation pumps: “Access to safe water is a necessity we often take for granted, but poor families around the world struggle to obtain this vital resource. Heifer’s solution is to help rural families install treadle pumps that maximize the number of growing seasons and allow them to expand the types of crops on their land. This cost-effective process is much cheaper than using motorized pumps, and more efficient than using buckets to fetch water.”

Dream basket: “Heifer's Dream Basket is filled with shares of a sheep, heifer, goat, rabbits, and a flock of chicks. Women will also learn how to feed and care for their livestock.”
