Background Checks for Nannies

Running background checks on nannies

Learn about this critical tool used in nanny placement and what’s covered in a comprehensive background check

Many families we talk to have never considered running a background check or driving history report for prospective caregivers. Yet we consider this a key aspect of the service we provide in our nanny referral business.  When you invite someone into your home and trust them with your children’s safety, it is critical that you have peace of mind about their history.

Although background checks are not 100% accurate, they can certainly confirm that your nanny is who she says she is and give you insight into her criminal history (or lack thereof).  It is one of several tools we have at our disposal to make an informed decision about a candidate.

At The First Milestones, we screen each potential candidate by requiring at least 3 personal and professional references before moving them forward to the pre-interview phase. Prior to interviewing with a potential family, our candidates must first submit to a basic background check. This is a report that verifies identity and runs a search on a multi-jurisdictional criminal records database. This is the most basic check and typically offers an instant or near-instant report. As the candidate moves towards placement, we run a comprehensive background check.

This comprehensive report includes:

  •  Advanced Identity Research

  •  Multi-jurisdictional Criminal Records Database Search

  •  County-level Misdemeanor and Felony Criminal Records Searches

  •  State-level Criminal Records Searches

  •  Federal District Criminal Records Searches

  •  USDOJ National Sex Offender Public Website Search

  •  National Wants and Warrants Search

We can also add on qualifications verification, driving history and drug screening for additional peace of mind. We’re happy to partner with Imperative Info Group here in Fort Worth for all of our background check needs.

Background checks are one of the many ways we help families find the perfect (and safe) nanny for their families. They’re covered by our referral fees and can also be purchased separately if you’ve found your own nanny.
