Mexican Tin Art (Hojalata)

Sometimes just changing the material you use can make a familiar activity feel exciting and new. Mexican tin art, or hojalata, is a style of art that uses pieces of tin that are cut, styled, embossed and painted. Here’s a link to a great overview with beautiful examples: Mexican tin art.

For our kid-friendly version, we’ll use cardboard-backed aluminum, instead of tin, and paint markers.

We prefer paint markers for their rich color. Here’s a link to the paint markers we buy on repeat. And Posca paint markers are also excellent but pricey. I tend to reserve those for grown-up projects 😉
