Nature Ornaments

These nature ornaments are a hit every year with kids and grownups alike. We just decorated our tree this past weekend, and hung up the nature ornaments we made last year. It is so fun to see the progression of skill from one year to the next.

Although we’re big fans of crafts that can be done with supplies you likely have around the house, this craft will require some special supplies (Air Dry Clay, Mod Podge, dried flowers). We think the results are worth the special purchases, though, and you’ll likely get lots of play from the Air Dry clay throughout the year. We use it often!

After pulling out last year’s ornaments, we realized we should have applied Mod Podge to both sides. You’ll need to let one side dry for a day, then repeat the process for the other side.

Links to the supplies we purchased:

  • Air Dry Clay, link to Amazon, but you can usually find it at Target or Michael’s at a better price

  • Mod Podge, link to Amazon, but you can also find it locally at the same or better price

  • Dried Flowers, link to Amazon, definitely the best deal unless you’re pressing your own

  • Ornament Cookie Cutters, we like the larger cookie cutters so you have enough space to add larger flowers and greenery

Some modifications:

  • You could use glitter, sequins or other flat treasures instead of dried flowers

  • You could allow the plain clay ornaments to dry, then paint them. You’ll still want to seal the clay with Mod Podge
