DIY Lava Lamps

This wildly exciting activity can be done with just a few materials you probably have at home. We don’t keep Alka-Seltzer at home, but you can grab this at any grocery store, big box store, or local pharmacy.

From the Alka-Seltzer website: “Alka-Seltzer contains citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). When you drop the tablet in water, the acid and the baking soda react – this produces the fizz.”

If you have citric acid and baking soda handy from our fizzing bath bomb activity, you can reuse those materials and create the same effect!

Use a sensory bin or large baking tray to contain your mess and make cleanup easier, or take this activity outside.

All of the supplies needed for this activity can be picked up at your local Target, Walmart or grocery store.
